My old "Ask Me Anything" post was recently brought back to my attention, so I figured now would be a good time to make a new one!
So here's your chance to ask me all your burning questions. Whether you're interested in the scanlation side of my life, my personal life, or need advice, feel free to drop it in a comment. Hell, if it's super personal you can even PM it to me with "Ask Me Anything" in the subject line. Nothing is off-limits and nothing is taboo.
This is also a great chance to remove me from your friends if you're unprepared for visually assaulting images like the one above (which means you didn't read my profile information) or you were just trying to join the community and download scanlations. I promise, I won't be offended. ^^
Before you ask- the pic above is by the artist Mentaiko. That doesn't count as a question.

Date: 2011-01-02 07:50 pm (UTC)By the way, can you even tie yourself? Isn't it hard?
no subject
Date: 2011-01-02 07:52 pm (UTC)Yeah, I can tie myself. ^^ It's not easy, and obviously I can only do ones that don't involve restricting my arms, but it's interesting to practice blind like that. A lot of it is behind your back so you can't see what you're doing, and it's backwards compared to doing it on someone else. Good practice. lol

Date: 2011-01-01 10:37 pm (UTC)I'm dying to ask this for a looooong time now:
Descride your first time seeing yaoi.
no subject
Date: 2011-01-01 11:10 pm (UTC)I've always thought that male on male sex was way hotter than heterosexual porn, but I kinda thought I was the only one. One of my gay friends introduced me to Loveless and then Gravitation. When I finished the Gravitation series, I went looking online for more information or information and stumbled on the Murakami Maki Gravitation Mega Mix Panda! Now...that was my VERY first time seeing true yaoi and my introduction to doujinshi, and that is one very seriously graphic piece! I think my eyes basically exploded and I passed out in a pool of my own blood. I started collecting all the Murakami remixes and mega mixes and then branched off into doujinshi and eventually scanlation! I learned to read hiragana and katakana from some of the filtiest smut imaginable! lol ^^

Date: 2011-01-01 11:13 pm (UTC)Hmm... my question... Ok!
what suddenly sparked your desire to scanlate?
and... do you see yourselves perhaps doing a full Takubon someday? If not, why only Doujinshi?
no subject
Date: 2011-01-02 12:38 am (UTC)It all started because after I began reading collecting doujinshi I found this Pink no Koneko doujinshi that I would have killed to have translated. I hunted down another kuroshitsuji pink no koneko scanlation and followed the contact information to her livejournal account. I sent her a message asking if she'd be willing to do a commission for pay. We started talking and she sent me the translation for voiceless voice (my very first scanlation). I was thrilled to be able to read it, but sad that no one else could, so I downloaded a pirated version of Photoshop CS4 and slapped the words on someone elses scans. lol From there I met the owner of another group and she taught me what I could do to make it better. It went on from there! I remember when I hit 50 downloads on that awful project I almost cried with joy. lol
I only scanlate doujinshi for several reasons- the main one being my attention span, but also since we release one project a week and I scramble every week to even get that much work done, a full manga would stall us for months. >.<; Plus, finding a stable translator interested in doing that much work is nearly impossible, and copyright laws changing all the time- doujinshi is just much safer, and often dirtier and quicker to produce without as much commitment.
I hope I answered your questions okay! ^^

Date: 2011-01-02 01:21 am (UTC)haha! good point. yeah... haa... those Laws and well... the whole new ban is such a draw back to doing a full manga... v.v so sad... eek! I do JUST LOVE that about Doujin. its much... *-* mm!! than most manga. lol...
Yes. you answered all of my questions. ^w^ Thank You!
Pfft! *cough* now...As for my other question.... do you plan on doing any more Pink no Koneko doujin?!?! xD

Date: 2011-01-01 11:29 pm (UTC)And hmm.. how did you learn Japanese?
no subject
Date: 2011-01-02 12:43 am (UTC)I started teaching myself Japanese, but then switched my major to it in college and started taking courses. I have about 2 years of formal Japanese behind me, but I can't do math and it kept me from getting my degree when I failed basic math for the 3rd time. *sigh* How silly! lol

Date: 2011-01-01 11:39 pm (UTC)Hmm, other than that I don't have too many questions. Maybe because I find it so rude? Haha, but I might come back sooner or later probably. :)
OK, never mind, I thought of a questions....that was quick. -_-
How long did it take you to learn the Japanese language. Also, which one is better? Your speaking/listening to reading?
no subject
Date: 2011-01-02 12:49 am (UTC)Don't feel rude! It's totally okay in this thread to ask me anything at all. ^^ It will help me get over my shyness.
I took two years of formal Japanese, and I was self taught for about a year before that. I still learn new kanji by exposure from looking through raws all the time. I'm by no means fluent. My reading is significantly better than my speaking. I can understand best by listening, but I can read fairly well. Speaking is my weakest point because I have no one to speak Japanese with and practice. lol XD

woooooow!!
Date: 2011-01-02 03:02 am (UTC)My question is: do you read Bara manga??
Re: woooooow!!
Date: 2011-01-02 10:49 am (UTC)I do read some bara, particularly the Mentaiko stuff, but there are a few other artists that I appreciate as well. I tend not to go for the veiny Mr. Universe bursting muscles men as much as the big, kinda real looking variety. It all depends on how hot it is. ^^
You could say I'm rather indiscriminate when it comes to reading hot man on man action. lol

Date: 2011-01-02 10:47 am (UTC)My question would be:
What is your OTP? The one pairing you NEVER get tired of? :D
no subject
Date: 2011-01-02 10:56 am (UTC)If I had to choose from Reborn it would likely be 1827, but I'm picky about my Hibari. The truth is, I tend to be way more into particular artists and how they draw the characters than what pairing is being showcased. I'm a massive Nitro Koutetsu fan, and they basically only do Yamamoto x Hibari. I love their work like burning, but they're really the only time I ship 8018. I love 7Men Zippo for their Hibari x Tsuna, and I love Banyu for their Dino x Hibari! See how I'm conflicted? hehe~ I guess you could say I'm a Hibari fangirl, but I also die for pairings involving Byakuran and Spanner or Shouichi. Even Gokudera! That doesn't narrow it down at all... lol
Well... there's your totally round-about answer!~ Feel free to stalk on with any more questions you have! XD

Date: 2011-01-03 08:51 am (UTC)You have to use a proxy >.<;; I use shoppingmalljapan for a lot of it, but it's expensive. Basically even if the auction ends for 200 yen, you're going to pay $20 for the book or more. I only use that for last ditch effort searches and brand new stuff since it's so damn expensive. Worth it if you're looking for a rare book though- you can usually find it there eventually. Shoppingmalljapan has a deposit required, but it lets you bid in real time (which i like) and you can bid on your own. It's a bit unwieldy to use, but I found those new 7Men Zippo books I was after on there. I probably paid like 25 a piece for them in the long run though. T_T lol They charge $5 commissions on all the auctions and then charge you shipping like 3 times over for inner Japan shipping, then to the states, then to you. Ugh. lol Let me know if you have any questions. I may be able to get some books for you if you don't want to pay the deposit since I already have an account. ^^

Date: 2011-01-03 09:33 am (UTC)I totally have twitter on my iphone and I use it all the time. You can always stalk me there at PhantomhiveScan (scanlations didn't fit! lol) Any @mentions come in as a text message, so if you ever need to get a hold of me directly it's as good as a text. I use it for all the people I work with who can't afford overseas text messaging rates. Yaay loopholes!

Date: 2011-01-08 06:13 pm (UTC)Since I strictly read yaoi, doujin are what usually introduce me to other genres. A doujin is actually what got me into KHR.
That makes a good next question. Did a doujin ever introduce you to a series you now love?
no subject
Date: 2011-01-08 06:31 pm (UTC)I think I read either an 1880 or maybe a 8059 but right away I was hooked on the doujin from that series. It actually took me a while to get into the actual series, but now I love it ^^
